Happy Earth Day! Please allow us to introduce ourselves. Hi, we’re The Again Co. We’re on a mission to help brands make fashion more sustainable through re-commerce. We chose to focus on fashion because we believe that we can facilitate meaningful and lasting change in the industry for the good of our planet.

The fashion industry is responsible for 10% of the greenhouse gases and 20% waste water that is generated globally each year, according to the United Nations Environmental Programme and Ellen MacArthur Foundation. That damage is exacerbated by our obsession with fast fashion and free, no questions asked returns, which is to blame for millions of tons of clothes ending up in landfills or incinerators each year (usually after only a seven uses). The result is a vicious cycle of unsustainable manufacturing and consumption. That’s where we come in.

Brands are beginning to realize that they must assume more responsibility for the impact of their operations, including what happens to their products after they are sold. Similarly, consumers are beginning to realize that they must change their consumption habits to favor wearing clothes longer, and finding alternative homes or uses for the clothes they no longer want. At the intersection of these realizations is re-commerce.

Brands are masters of design, manufacturing, and distribution, but they lack the infrastructure to operate a re-commerce program. Study after study has shown that consumers are eager to adopt re-commerce to reduce the environmental impact of their consumption, but they prefer to support brands that offer re-commerce directly. Our re-commerce solution allows brands to offer the re-commerce programs their customers are eager to use.

We see a future where re-commerce is part of every brand’s sustainability initiatives right alongside sustainable design, sourcing, and distribution initiatives. We see re-commerce being offered with the same enthusiasm and backed by the same investment as new clothing. Ultimately, we see re-commerce becoming a major source of revenue for brands, which encourages brands to manufacture fewer clothes that are made to last longer and are in fact kept in use longer through re-commerce.

Today marks our first step towards that vision. Please join us in making our vision a reality. You can follow us on social media, subscribe to our newsletter and blog, or contact us to discuss your ideas or questions. We’re looking forward to helping bring a more sustainable future to the fashion industry.
